Father Bidmas

Father Bidmas and the order of operations in an equation.

BIDMAS

Equations can be scary,
and really look quite tough,
Let BIDMAS be a helping hand,
To guide you through that stuff.

B, it stands for Brackets,
(Brackets of any sort),
Within which you find numbers,
And algebra are caught.

I, it stands for Indices,
Things like powers and roots,
Cubes and squares and other powers,
And odd things called square roots.

It used to be called BODMAS,
With an O that stood for Other,
But that is quite old-fashioned now,
(A little bit like your mother).

Division next and Multiply,
Follow in the list,
But firstly check, my hasty friend,
That you have no brackets missed!

Adding and Subtracting,
Come finally in the queue,
After all the rest are done,
They are the last to do.

B - Brackets
I - Indices
D - Divide
M - Multiply
A - Add
S - Subtract
